Job Description

Location Medical Services are looking for experienced paramedics with excellent clinical skills and “real world” experience *1 to be part of an expanding team delivering an innovative and exciting community response home visiting paramedic services on behalf of GP networks in the North-West Surrey area.

Candidates should have extensive operational experience as a paramedic (or EMT then Paramedic), with full HCPC registration and be strongly motivated towards refocusing and enhancing skills and experience in a primary care setting.

Ideal candidates will have or be actively working towards level 7 advanced practice modules including minor illness and advanced assessment and or extensive primary care / urgent care experience. That said, practitioner level qualifications are not essential for consideration and further education to practitioner level will be provided and supported by LMS. Excellent clinical skills, combined with the kind of “real world” experience that means you can “intuitively” recognise sick patients, understand more complex patients, and communicate and work with GPs to safely agree best treatment or referral plans for patients, are ideal attributes for this role.

You will be working closely with GP practices, prioritising and responding to visit requests. Visits are primarily in patients’ homes, with treatment plans, referrals or admissions as agreed with the duty GPs as appropriate. Most work is same day - and urgent or emergency patients are prioritised and responded to appropriately, with ALS equipment and skills utilised as required.

Experience with EMIS is useful - otherwise full training will be given - although good IT skills are essential.

Location Medical Services has been operating these services for several years. Rapid expansion during Covid has demonstrated the safety and benefits of paramedic-led services to CCG’s and GPs to the point that they are commissioning new services from us.

Although there is some potential for rotation and cover in the West London services - current recruitment is join a team of clinicians operating daily across north-west Surrey (Woking to Ashford). We operated from our base in Shepperton Studios and shifts are 0830-1800 or 0930-1900, Base to Base, Monday to Friday. We allow a late visit potentially taking finish times to 1830 / 1930 if required (quite rare) and pay accordingly - but over runs and late finishes are not frequent.

We support a PgDip / MSc in advanced practice. For members of the team who achieve level 7 modules, we offer career development including hospital placements and training from our towards our Enhanced Care service to include:

IV Antibiotics
Emergency Catheter Care (Flush / Exchange)
DVT Ultrasound Assessment
Emergency End of Life Care

Background

Marked car and full paramedic equipment are provided. Equipment is modern and well maintained, and all staff are supported by an excellent clinical leadership (we are fortunate to have Dr Fionna Moore as our medical director - so we keep up to date with all prehospital care training). You will also, of course, have the chance to opt into a huge variety of event and film & TV medical shifts, for sheer variety, to make up hours or to see events, concerts or football matches that you might otherwise pay for!

This is a salaried role, working to a four-day week shift pattern (Monday to Friday one day off during the week).
